“4” Beyonce Knowles

Beyonce’s lastest album “4” also her 4th studio solo album has been the theme tune music of my summer. It quite scary the power beyonce seems to have gained over the last 10 years going from strength to stength with hits. with Such High standards has this new album reached our expectations?

Released June 24, 2011. The twelve-song set (eighteen on the deluxe edition) Is her first musical project without the accompanied of her father/ ex manager Mathew Knowles as of March 2011.

1. 1+1

(Best song on album) with Classic guitar, strong piano chords and inspired lyrics from the likes of

I don’t know much about algebra, but I know one plus one equals two

And it’s me and you, thats all we’ll have when the world is thru

This song sends shivers down your spine one thing that has to be experienced live. Her performance of this song at this year Glastonbury was history in the making.

2. I Care

A slow starter song. Very edgey with drop effect sounds. But mainly beats with with vocals. Not one of the best on the album tends to be skipped.

3. I Miss You

Reflective of music on the album “B day” Slow mellow with light beats. Quite empty lyrics about missing someone.

4. Best Thing I Never Had

Uplifting and the PERFECT driving song! With classic piano and beats it’s a classic beyonce ballard with a strong women message which beyonce is so iconic for. Lyrics include

“Thank God you blew it

Thank God I dodged the bullet”

“ And I’m gon’ always be the best thing you never had

I bet it sucks to be you right now”

With Electric guitar and a grand build up with backing singer nearer the end very it leaves you with a smile on your face. I must say I really am not bored of this song yet and I played it over 10 times on the road in one day.

5. Party (Featuring Andre 3000)

More of a slow Jam going back to classic beyonce back to destiny child sounds… very much a Kelly Rowland song this is great backing music for a BBQ or party but not much in terms of dancing unless it with a partner.

6. Rather Die Young

Alternative beginning with chords like a dream then the beat comes in with electric guitar and more yelling singing. Was quite uncomfortable to listen to at first but once you’ve listened to it a few times it’s much easier.

7. Start Over

Great Song. Starting of like a MGMT song with electronics she adds the beats and a Tina Turner style vocal which makes the whole chord seem very empowering. Again a great driving song. Quite an orginal approach to a song Ballard about stopping argument and starting a relationship again.

8. Love On Top

VERY 1970!!? But loved it after “Dream Girls” can imagine Micheal Jackson dueting to this song. Be interesting to see if she makes a music video. Great song to add to the album for abit of variety, but will not be everyone’s cup of tea. Classic Key change near the end.

9. Countdown

Favourite song. WIth Kanye West infuenced trumpets at the beginning much like “all of the lights” then onto a break down countdown. The mixture of hiphop beats and trumpets creates a great tune. We see abit more of Sasha Fierce in this song like ”upgrade you” Definitely a Dance song. Much of a dance with the girls song. THANK YOU beyonce.

10. End of Time

Starting with an almost Indian theme with drums and blured vocals and goes into a African/Carribbean beat. Much a Carnival tune. With a shake your banana leaf skirt rhythm.

11. I Was Here

Inspired. Love the message of this song about living life. Much a song which will be played when she deads as her theme tunes (what a horrible thought life without beyonce?!) Driving song definitely.

‎12. RunTheWorld (Girls)

I first hear this song when she performed it at the billboard awards and performed with “LES TWINS” I already LOVED les twins (french dance double act) and definiately recommend youtubing them.

Les TwinsBeyonce did a good job getting them involved in the performance of this song. Inspired by African Keyanian Tribal dance the moves are very much addictive making you do things with your body you have never done before. Quite a controversial song in terms of lyrics. Although it’s pro women and pro power some feminist listens by argue it’s more sexual power then actual power. Lyrics include

“Smart enough to mother children. then get back to business.”

“Glass up for the college Grad.”

Either way I think this song is definifetly for boys and girls to dance to. Music Video is Inspired by Goddess Female rulers like cleopatra with amazing outfits and armies of amazing looking women dancing.

Music Video "Run The World"

Verdict.

Like most albums, a real mixture of songs more dull songs like “missing you” and classic garenteeded hits such all “Countdown” and “Run the world”.

Either way I think Beyonce has managed to do pretty well as a solo music maker!
